The estate roads
Wythenshawe was laid out as a garden city, which left it with wide, generously spaced residential roads and light traffic for most of the day. For an absolute beginner that is close to ideal: room to make a mistake, junctions every few hundred yards, and no dual carriageway anywhere near until you ask for one.
Princess Parkway (A5103)
A fast dual carriageway with slip roads on and off, running north towards the city. Merging, lane discipline and safe following distances, once the basics are solid.
Simonsway and Altrincham Road
Steady A-road driving with roundabouts, filter lanes and traffic moving at a decent pace. The middle ground between the estates and the motorway, and the sort of road most of a test actually consists of.
The airport approaches and the M56
Multi-lane junctions, clear signage and traffic that keeps moving. Useful for building confidence at speed, and worth doing before test day rather than after.

On the estate roads, almost certainly. Wide, quiet residential streets are the right place to learn where the clutch bites and what the car feels like, without a queue of traffic behind you.

Yes, all of them. M22 and M23 are inside the free pick-up area, as is Northenden.
How much are lessons?
£37 an hour, or £350 for a 10 hour block booking. Intensive courses are £760 for 20 hours and £1,140 for 30. Specialist lessons for additional learning needs are £40 an hour. Full price list.
